Abstract :

This study aimed to know the level of the students acquisition of the Sixth Grade of basic Arithmetic skills, and knowledge of their acquisition of concepts and Algebra Skills, and to know the relationship between the level of their acquisition to the basic Arithmetic skills, and their acquisition to the concepts and skills of Algebra , to know the differences in all the basic Arithmetic skills test , the concepts and Algebra skills for students, males and females. To achieve these previous goals, this study tried to answer the following questions: 1. What is the level of students acquisition for basic Arithmetic skills mentioned in new Mathematics Curriculum? 2. What is the level of acquisition of basic sixth grade of concepts and Algebra skills? 3. Is there a positive relationship between acquisition of the basic sixth grade of the concepts and Algebra skills, and the level of their acquisition of basic Arithmetic skills? 4. Are there differences in achieving of the student in basic sixth grade in test of basic Arithmetic skills mentioned in the new Mathematics curriculum due to the variable of sex? 5. Are there differences in achieving of the basic sixth grade students in test skills and concepts of Algebra due to the variable of sex? The population consisted from basic sixth grade in government schools of Jenin and Qabatia Education directorates for study year (2000-2001). The total number the study population (6040) and the study sample consisted of (635) students, (322) males and (313) females. The sample was selected by simple random way. In answering questions number one and two , the arithmetic means and the standard deviations were used ,in answering question number three the coefficient correlation of ( Person ) was used. While ( Chi – sqare ) test was used to answer the forth and fifth questions. The researcher prepared two tests: one measures the level of the students acquisition of the basic Arithmetic skills mentioned in the new Mathematics curriculum, and another that measures the level of their acquisition for skills and concepts of Algebra. The validity of the content of the two tests was approved by judging committee. The reliability coefficient was calculated for each test by consistency method and Kuder-Richardson (20) equation. There liability coefficient of test basic Arithmetic skills was (0.89), and the reliability coefficient of test Algebra skills and concepts was (0.77). The results of the study showed considerable decease in the students acquisition of the basic Arithmetic skills and while their acquisition for Algebra concepts and skills was acceptable, and there is a positive relationship between the students acquisition level of basic Arithmetic skills and their acquisition for Algebra concepts and skills, and The value of Chi –square reached the level of the significant differences ( = 0.05) over the basic arithmetic skills in eleven paragraphs , the difference was in favor of females , except paragraph number twelve was in favor of males , but the test of concepts and Algebra skills. The value of Chi – square reached the significant differences (= 0.05) in paragraphs one and three , and the difference was in favor of females and in paragraphs 5, 11, 13, the difference was in favor of males. In the light of these results, the researcher has recommended working in studies to discover hidden reasons behind the weakness in basic skills in Mathematics, and feeding programs through benefiting from tutorial classes to avoid sides of different weakness and failure in acquisition basic skills in Mathematics. Also, the researcher has recommended similar further studies on other samples of population in Palestine.

Abstract :

“The Relationship between the Teacher’s practice for the Mathematical Geometric Question and the Ability to solve it by the Ninth Grades students in Jenin Governate Schools”. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of applying the skills of teaching the geometric and mathematical question by the teachers, and the effects of sex on the student’s ability to solve it. The practices that the teacher was asked to follow during the teaching of tangent and circular and quartet shapes unit in Ninth Grade’s book contain reading the question rapidly, then deeply, drawing the shape or the sketch of the question, identifying the data and what is required in the question , setting the solutions plan, carrying out the solution, and asking some students to repeat it orally , and ensuring the correctness of the solution. * The study tried to answer these two questions: 1- Does the student’s ability to solve the geometric mathematical question differ as a result of changing the teaching method? 2- Does the sex of the students affect students affect their ability to solve the geometric mathematical question? To answer the two above questions, the researcher chose eight schools using the random method oh both male and female students. He chose three boy’s school and four girls schools; he chose two Ninth Grade’s sections randomly from each school. The number of these sections was (14). The total number of the male and female students was (536). Out of the (14) sections, the researcher chose seven sections using the random methods to form the standard group. The sample of the study represented nearly (11%) of the study community which included (536) male and female students. As for the experimental group, it had (267) male and female students. There was an agreement between the researcher and the teacher in which the teacher is going to teach the members of these sections using special practices. The researcher supplied every teacher with a wall-sheet. On these cards, he wrote the steps that should be followed upon solving the geometric question. He asked those teachers to hang them up in the classrooms of the experimental sections during teaching the unit of the tangents, and the circular and quintet shapes. Also, the researcher supplied the teachers of the experimental sections with solved examples in accordance with the exhibited steps of the wall-sheet. Immediately after the teachers had finished teaching the unit, they applied the accomplishing test on the members of both the experimental and the standard groups, supplied to them by the researcher. After the researcher had corrected the test papers, and jolted down the marks, he used the (t-test). The findings of this study were as follow: 1- There are differences of statistical indication at the indication level (α=0.05 ) of the students ability to solve the geometric question, due to the teaching method, and in favour of teaching with the accordance of the suggested strategy steps . 2- There were differences of statistical indication at the indication level of (α=0.05) in the ability of the students to solve the geometric question due to the sex of the student, and in the favor of females. According to these findings, the researcher recommended that the teachers should use strategies of clear steps during teaching the tangent and the circular and quartet shapes unit, for this has an obvious effect on increasing the ability of the students to solve such questions.

Abstract :

This study sought to identify leadership patterns of Palestinian university faculty members in the northern governorates of the West Bank as perceived by faculty members themselves and students. It also investigated the role of sex, university, and academic level variables in these patterns. To these two ends, the researcher developed and administered a questionnaire to 1,931 faculty members and students. Of these, 1,666 were female and male students and 265were faculty members hailing from different Palestinian universities. The reliability coefficient of the questionnaire was o.86 and 0.85 fro the faculty members. And students respectively. For the purposes of the study, they are considered acceptable. The researcher also used SPSS program for the testing of the hypotheses. Hypotheses of the study: 1- There are no statistically significant difference at (α= 0.05) among the means of leadership patterns of Palestinian university faculty members in the northern governorates of the West Bank as perceived by faculty members them selves and students which may be attributed to the sex of both faculty members and students. 2- There are no statistically significant difference at (α= 0.05) among the means of leadership patterns of Palestinian university faculty members in the northern governorates of the West Bank as perceived by faculty members them selves and students which may be attributed to academic level of both faculty members and students. 3- There are no statistically significant difference at (α= 0.05) among the means of leadership patterns of Palestinian university faculty members in the northern governorates of the West Bank as perceived by faculty members them selves and students which may be attributed to place of living university variable of both faculty members and students. Results: After data collection and analysis, it was found that the democratic pattern got an average estimation as opposed to low estimation for both loose and dictator sling patters. More specifically, the results revealed that there were no statistically significant differences in the total score of leadership patterns which might be due to sex variable of both male and female faculty members. However, there were clear differences among male and female faculty members in the democratic pattern in favor of male, loose pattern in favor of male, loose pattern in favor of meals and dictatorship pattern also in favor of females. Moreover, results revealed that there were no statistically significant difference in the democratic pattern due to the sex variable of male and female students. However, there were obvious difference among male and female students in the loose pattern, did atorship pattern and total score of leadership patterns. The significances less than 0.05 and it was in favor of male students. The results, however, showed that there were significant difference in the total score of patterns and domains of leadership due to the academic level of both faculty members and students.
